"Okoa" is a Swahili word that means "rescue" — underscoring our responsibility to identify and rescue the most vulnerable, especially mothers and children, from challenging circumstances.
— Okoa Mother Child Initiative (OMC)The Okoa Mother and Child Initiative (OMC) is a dedicated group of humanitarians committed to actively empowering mothers and children with a focus on health, economic stability, and essential social skills, all aimed at catalysing transformative change within communities across Uganda.
Established in 2015, our team initially engaged in community outreach projects within the Eastern Region districts, shedding light on the struggles faced by mothers and children due to a lack of vital life skills. Recognizing the pressing need to expand our reach and impact, we officially registered the Okoa Mother and Child Initiative (OMC) with relevant government authorities in 2021.
Our work is driven by a clear purpose and a bold vision for the future of mothers and children in Uganda.
To equip mothers with empowerment and development skills, to catalyse positive social change within their communities.
We envision a thriving community that enjoys robust health, economic empowerment and sustainable development.
Compassion, integrity, community-led development, and sustainable empowerment for every mother and child we serve.
Through our four core program areas, we address the root causes of vulnerability for mothers and children.
Behind Okoa Initiative is a passionate team of humanitarians committed to making a difference.
